Taiwan stocks opened flat on Tuesday, joining other Asian bourses in faltering as a rally that had been driven by expectations of a second bailout package for Greece ran out of steam, with oil counters weighing on the index. The main TAIEX index slipped 0.02 percent, or 1.76 points, to 7,953.06, after ending up 0.77 percent in the previous session.
Oil and gas counters fell 0.41 percent, offsetting top gainer chemicals, which rose 0.67 percent. Electronics shares were flat. TPK Holding however gained 3.06 percent ahead of its earnings announcement. Reports said it will see large shipments in March due to Amazon's new tablets as well as Apple's iPad 3. Financial shares edged down 0.29 percent. The Taiwan dollar was up by T$0.005 to trade at T$29.549. Foreign investors were net buyers on Monday, bringing their total buying to T$44.13 billion this month.
