Exporters' duty drawback claims to be cleared soon

Funds will be released soon to clear duty drawback claims filed by 400 exporters of Faisalabad, said Nisar Muhammad Khan Chief Collector Customs (North). He was addressing the members of Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry the other day. He said that economic stability was imperative for the country and the business community was playing a vital role in achieving the objective.
"The government is making best efforts to facilitate them." He said that dry ports were established across the country to promote imports and exports by resolving the problems confronted by the business community. He expressed surprise over high custom rates at Faisalabad Dry Port as compared to other ports, saying that the rates should be uniform. He also directed to rationalise the rates without any delay. He added that volume wise exports were less as compared to last year and hence the government should reprioritise its policies to help the dwindling industrial sector.
Earlier in his welcome address President FCCI Muzammil Sultan said that exports were gradually declining and custom officials should facilitate importers and exporters on dry ports. He termed establishment of Dry Port at Faisalabad as a major achievement of local business community. He hoped the activities at FDT would be flourishing soon again by providing best services. The business from this port was shifted to other ports due to some unresolved issues. The business could be attracted back at this port by resolving the issues on emergency basis. Due to shortage of energy the businesses are on the verge of collapse. The government should provide better facilities to the exporters.
Collector Customs Shaukat Ali, Khurrianwala Industrial Association chairman Azhar Majeed Sheikh, PMC and Allied Hospital Board of Management Chairman Mian Muhammad Latif, Faisalabad Dry Port Trust Chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Siddique, The All Pakistan Bed-Sheet and Upholstery Manufacturers Association vice-chairman Imran Mahmood, Chaudhry M. Asghar, Chaudhry M. Boota took part in the question-answer session while FCCI vice president Rehan Nasim Bharara thanked the participants. Later, FDPT chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Siddique and Mian Muhammad Latif presented FCCI mementos to the guests. A large number of businessmen of Faisalabad attended the meeting.
