Liaquat National Hospital (LNH) and Medical College will open two-day pre-annual symposium training workshops for doctors on Sunday (today) while 7th LNH medical symposium will be held from February 24 to 26 with the theme of "Saving Patients; Protecting Doctors".
Chairman Symposium Committee Dr Shakil Aqil along with Secretary Dr Salman Sharif, Medical Director LNH Dr Salman Faridi and Dr Ishrat Saleem highlighted the salient features of the multi disciplinary symposium at pre event media briefing at Convention Centre LNH, here on Saturday.
The workshops to begin on Sunday (today) will be in various fields of medicine and have been particularly designed for family doctors and are focussed on cardiology, brain tumour, neurology, gastroenterology, urology, oncology, chest medicine, gynaecology, plastic surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, pathology and others.
Discussion on medical ethics of termination of pregnancy and saving patients & protecting doctors would also be held in plenary sessions. Dr Ishrat said the LNH is contributing to health sector and medical education. He said the activities would start from Sunday (today) however, the main symposium would be held on February 24th. Dr Saleem said as many as 28 workshops are planned in this symposium that will be equally beneficial to common people in context of life support.
Dr Shakil Aqil said LNH has left no stone unturned in providing optimum health care at reasonable price to patients. Though a number of seminars are being organised time and again by LNH, but this symposium is a mega event of the hospital, which attracts delegates not only from the country but also from other parts of the world, he noted.
Dr Salman Faridi said this was stare-of-the-art hospital, which was not only well equipped with the modern technologies but also had highly qualified doctors. He informed that 125 consultants were serving in the hospital who were educated and trained in UK, Europe and Pakistan.
He announced that Research Development Centre would be inaugurated in the symposium, which would be state-of-the-art centre. Replying to a query, he said Rs 50 million was allocated for treatment of deserving patients. He further said this was beside the fact that treatment provided at subsidised rates to the masses in general.
