The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) in collaboration with Trade Related Technical Assistance (TRTA II)/EU is holding a two-day workshop to prepare curriculum for food safety and food inspection. This was stated by Deputy Head of EU delegation to Pakistan Pierre Mayaudon, Unido international Advisor Ian Goulding TRTA II)/EU, office in-charge Ali Abbas Qazilbash and Roshan Ara while holding a meeting with UVAS-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha at his office on Saturday.
They also said that UVAS would hold workshop next month and two other universities; University of Karachi and University of Agriculture Faisalabad will participate in the workshop. They maintained that there was a dearth of food inspectors and at least 3,600 food inspectors would readily be expected in the job market. He further said this could be achieved by strengthening the national system for food bio-safety/bio-security, analyses, certification and inspection with a view to enhance compliance with international standards.
UVAS Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said the university was spending five million for the construction of classrooms. He said university closely worked with livestock industry and formed dairy and poultry club to address the industries' problems. Referring to the study of micro toxin and aflatoxins, Professor Pasha said that cotton-seed cake was spreading disease in animal as well as human, adding UVAS had developed milk adulteration kit to identify the chemicals. Professor Pasha said UVAS was holding seminar on Road map of dairy industry and food session.
