Jamaat-ud-Dawah and many other religious organisations on Friday held protest rallies against Anti-Terrorism Court's decision of awarding death sentence to Malik Mumtaz Qadri, the self-confessed murderer of former Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer.
The rally organised by Jamaat-ud-Dawah started from Chungi No 14 on Friday and reached Chowk Ghanta after passing through Manzoorabad, Hafiz Jamal road, Daulat Gate, Hussain Agahi. Maulana Amir Hamza led the rally.
Another rally of Markazi Jamiat Ahle-Hadith began from Hassanabad was led by Allama Abdul Rahim Gujjar. Tehrik Minhaj-ul-Quran rally led by Muhammad Arif Rizvi, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam and Majlis Ahrar-i-Islam organised a joint rally under the leadership of Syed Khurshid Abbas Gardezi.
Jamaat-e-Islami took out a rally from Kalima Chowk led by Rao Zafar Iqbal, Dr Ashraf Ali Atique Chaudhry Iftikhar Ahmed and Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan rally was led by Mufti Hidayat ullah Pasroori and Ayyub Mughal. All these rallies gathered at Chowk Ghanta Ghar to protest against the death sentence awarded to Mumtaz Qadri, assassin of Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer.
They said that the court's verdict reflected an unfortunate secular atmosphere in Pakistan. They urged the participants to unite against the judgement. He said there would be protests all over the country on every Friday. Maulana Amir Hamza of JuD said Muslims should stand up and tell the world that they were ready to die but not ready to allow blasphemy.
