The college teachers working under the set up of Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) would stage a protest demonstration in front of National Press Club today against non-upgradation of their scales. The teachers have been on their protest and wearing black bands on their arms with boycotting of classes for the last many days, demanding upgradation through Time Scale Promotion Formula (TSPF).
The protest is being led by the office bearers of Federal Government College Teachers Association (FGCTA) with the participation of hundreds of teachers working in BPS-17 and above.
The teachers following their schedule of protest and vowed to carry on boycotting of classes until their demand of upgradation not met. The teachers would wear black bands on arms and carry banners inscribed with their demands of implementing decision of upgradation of college teachers.
President FGCTA Zahid Ali Shah said "the teachers' community would continue its protest against discriminatory attitude of the authorities, if their status were not upgraded they will observe the International Teachers Day on October 5 as a Black Day".
The teachers' community had been struggling for their upgradation ever since they were assured by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on World Teachers Day October 5, 2006 but still their voice was unheard, he said.
Talking to APP, the representative of FGCTA, Professor Tahir said that teachers were again given assurance by the officials of the directorate but "we would continue our protest until we received something in black and white".
The protestors would observe full day boycott of classes on October 4 and 5 and launch protest in front of Parliament House from October 6 till fulfilment of their demands.
