Farmers advised to prepare land for Rabi crops

The Met Office has advised the farmers to prepare their lands especially those of the rainy areas for the sowing of coming Rabi crops on time, particularly the wheat with a view to scale down the loss in yield because of the late sowing.
"Stagnant water may badly damage the standing crops in the agricultural plains of Sindh. Therefore, drainage of water from fields may be made if possible so that the land may be prepared well on time for the sowing of wheat and other Rabi crops," says the Met Office advisory to farmers issued on Saturday. The advisory says that weather in the most parts of Sindh, Balochistan and south Punjab is likely to remain dry, however, thunderstorm/rainfall of light to moderate intensity are expected at the scattered/isolated places of upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab and Kashmir from October 7 to 10, 2011.
"Normal wind pattern is likely to prevail over most parts of the country. Strong gusty winds are expected in upper Punjab (rice growing areas), upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa from October 7 to 10, 2011," the office adds. The advisory says that nearly normal temperature range is expected in most parts of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir. While 2-3 degree centigrade above normal temperatures is likely to hit Sindh and Balochistan.
