Overloading of passengers: IG NH&MP directs strict action against PSVs

Inspector General National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) Zafarullah Khan has ordered that no overloading of passengers in public service vehicles (PSVs) would be allowed and strict action be taken against the violators. The IGP issued these directives during a meeting with office-bearers and transport owners of PSVs of Murree here on Wednesday.
The transport owners met IG NH&MP under the leadership of Raja Shahid of Raja Travel and Raja Sarwar, President Pakistan People's Party Mrree. A presentation was given regarding the rate of accidents of PSV vehicles on Murree Expressway by SSP Jan Muhammad.
The delegation of Murree Transport Owners Association met with the IG NH&MP Zafarullah Khan to allow them to overload the passengers in Hiace vans plying on Murree Expressway as 18 passengers. The IGP requested them to cooperate with motorway police as no illegal favour could be given. He said that most of the public service vehicles are involved in over speeding, overloading, and lane violations, which lead to major accidents.
The members of the transport owners assured the IGP that the PSV transporters will strictly observe the traffic rules, not overload passengers, not overcharge and will also not humiliate the passengers. In case of any violation, the motorway police may challan these PSVs in different codes and will also impound the vehicle for 72 hours.
The IGP ordered DIG Abbas Hussain Malik that strict action be taken against PSV vehicles found in overloading, over speeding and overcharging. The transport owners assured the IGP that they would strictly follow the instructions of the motorway police and would also have no strike on any issue. Abbas Hussain Malik, DIG, SSP Jan Muhammad and Iqrar Hussain Shah, DSP were present in the meeting.
