Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan Stone Development Company (Pasdec) Ihsanullah Khan has said that the quantum of marble exports has boosted up to 76 million US dollars in this year against 59 million dollars during 2009-10 owing to Pasdec efforts and introduction of mechanised quarrying in the country.
This will cross the figure of hundred million dollars in next financial year. He was addressing to stakeholders of Marble and Granite sector in the oath taking ceremony of newly elected office-bearers of All Pakistan Marble Industries Association (APMIA).
He said that the marble exports were holding up only 34 million dollars in few years ago.
When Pasdec established model projects of marble and granite development in the country the exports quantum has increasing adequately. Pasdec has set up number of model quarries, quarry Up-gradations, warehouses, and machinery pools projects in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa and Fata to transform the sector into dimensional stone industry. The value-added productions of marble square blocks has endorsed positive effects on industry and will strengthen the national economy, he added.
Ihsannullah Khan said that due to value added marble production by using state of the art machinery we may succeed to pick up a lot of export orders from international market. In this connection Pasdec has participated in MARMOMAAC exhibition, an international stone fair, held in Italy and displayed its marble products. They expect to get major orders in coming days.
