Power shortfall has started inching again towards abnormal levels, as the demand and supply gap widen to around 4000MW on Saturday with rise in mercury after comparatively long cloudy spell. The power generation stood at 13393MW against a demand of 17194MW, leaving the system with total shortfall of 3801MW.
The thermal generation recorded a decrease owing to a number of reasons including short supply of fuel. However, the hydel generation was yet at full throttle and likely to stay intact in the days to come. According to the Pepco briefing, power generation through hydel, thermal, IPPs and RPPs remained 6416MW, 1416MW, 5398MW and 163MW, respectively. Meanwhile, the Pepco supplied 720MW to the KESC during last 24 hours.
The Pepco sources said the demand supply gap may widen further ahead with likely rise in mercury. Further, they said pressure for power supply from industrial consumers is increasing. It may add salt to the injury so far as domestic consumers are concerned.
