Indus Motor Company (IMC) held its 18th Annual Kaizen Convention recently at a local hotel in Karachi. Khawaja Muhammad Yousuf, CEO, National Productivity Organisation (NPO} was the Chief Guest. According to the press release, the convention was attended by eminent personalities from the automobile and engineering industries, educational institutions, and guests from House of Habib, IMC Vendors, Dealers, Business partners, and IMC team.
Yousuf congratulated IMC for organising such an event and stated "growth and excellence lies in the adoption of Kaizen (continuous search for improvement) and QCC approach for continuous improvement. "Indus Motor Company for adopting Kaizen and QCC for the development and well-being of each key stakeholder thereby is taking IMC business to new heights." He also mentioned that Kaizen initiatives and activities should spread to other industries which would pave the way for an accelerated progress which is essential for the much-needed economic development of our country.
He appreciated the efforts of IMC for contribution towards the development of the automobile industry in Pakistan and invited IMC management to Productivity Congress in coming November to share their success story with the forum. Parvez Ghias, CEO, IMC, in his welcoming address, highlighted the positive role of Kaizen at IMC and its Dealer and Vendor family. He mentioned that 2010-11 remained another challenging year for the local auto industry affected by unprecedented floods in the country, severe shocks to the supply chain from a devastating earthquake in Japan, high inflationary pressures driving up the cost of production and coupled with a liberalised used-car import policy of the GOP.
Through Kaizen in our systems, we are offsetting some of the impact of these challenges and that is why we have put so much emphasis on this concept. However, he was hopeful that the government will work closely with the auto industry and develop stable policies to encourage growth of the local auto industry which made healthy contribution to the national exchequer, created thousands of jobs, enabled technology transfer for localisation, provided affordable mobility to people and businesses and above all, contributed heavily to economic prosperity of the country.
The Indus Kaizen Convention is an annual feature with the aim of recognising the efforts of the Kaizen teams of Indus, its Vendors and Dealers. This year 14 presentations were made by various Kaizen teams including those from IMC Vendors and Dealers. The First Prize in the IMC competition went to the team, "Evaluator" from Assembly Shop for improving quality of Trim Line through reduction of process defects. In the Dealers Category, Toyota Southern Motors team, 'Quality Initiator' got the first prize for their Kaizen activities in enhancing customers' satisfaction through quick maintenance while in the Vendors Category, AB Engineering team, 'Champions' got the First Prize for productivity and quality improvement through process change.-PR
