Following the financial aid for flood affected people of Sindh province, the Ummah Welfare Trust, a charity organisation, on Monday announced £5 million for famine-hit people of Somalia. A press release issued here by Ummah Media Cell said that the trust has approved a £5 million financial assistance for people suffering from starvation and living desperate life in Somalia.
Trust chairman Mohammad Idress had visited makeshift camps of famine hit people in Somalia and observed the overall situation facing the locals. After his visit, the trust dispatched a food and non-food consignment comprising essential commodities, livelihood, medicines and other daily use items.
Mohammad Idress said that the situation is precarious in famine hit Somalia, adding that people, especially children and women, were dying due to prolonged starvation and hunger, which was great human catastrophe. He urged the philanthropists and Muslim brethren to give financial support to the people of Somalia in this time testing situation.
