As many as 19 candidates of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) have won their seats of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly from different constituencies on Sunday, according to private TV channels.
According to unofficial results, eight candidates of Pakistan Muslim League (N), three candidate of Muslim Conference while two independent candidates also obtained their seats. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate and former Prime Minister Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry from LA-3 (City Mirpur-III) and President PPP AJK Ch. Abdul Majeed LA-2 (Chakswari Mirpur-II) have also won their seats.
Other PPP candidates who won their seats included Afsar Shahid LA-1 (Dadayal Mirpur-I), Syed Azhar Hussain Gillani (LA 39, Valley- 4), Sardar Yaqoob of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) (LA 19 Rawalakot-3), Afsar Shahid (LA-39, Valley-4), Chaudhry Akbar Ibraheem (LA-34 Jammu-Gujarat), Abdul Salam Butt (LA-40, Valley-5) Sardar Qamar Zaman (LA-14, Bagh-II) and Chaudhry Abdul Majeed (LA-2, Mirpur).
The candidates of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) won majority in LA-35 (Jammu & others-6) and Kashmir valley-5 constituencies meant for AJK refugees, in connection with the AJK Legislative Assembly elections.
According to the unofficial results, the PML (N) candidate Raja Muhammad Saddique secured 1475 votes against the total of 2283 cast votes, PPP's aspirant Amin Chugtai got 647 votes while Sardar Abdul Razzak of Muslim Conference managed to obtain only 30 votes.
In LA-35 (Jammu & others-6) constituency total registered voters were 4783 while nine polling stations were set up for polling across the district, he said.
He further informed that in Kashmir Valley-5 constituency, the PML (N)'s aspirant Bashir Ahmed secured 42 votes out of a total 100 cast votes while PPP's candidates Abdul Salam Butt got 40 votes.
In this constituency, total registered Kashmir voters were 171, where four polling stations were set up to hold the elections.
PML-N candidate in LA 38 Valley-III (Azad Jummu Kashmir) Shoukat Ali Shah has won the election by securing 315 votes from the polling stations established in Multan.
According to unofficial results, a total of 555 voters at both male and females' polling stations cast their votes. PPP candidate S. Mohammad Shah obtained 240 votes and remained second. The total number of voters were 1475 in Multan.
Candidates of Muslim Conference Sardar Attique Ahmad Khan (LA-13, Bagh-1) and Sayab Khalid (LA-20) while Raja Farooq Haider of Pakistan Muslim League (N) and one independent candidate Muhammad Hassan Sagana (LA-37) also won their seats.
Our staff reporter from Lahore adds: Violence and rampage marred elections in Azad Kashmir 's Legislative Assembly's seat, LA-37 V-II, as workers of Pakistan People's Party and PML-N clashed at different polling stations. After reports of violence, AJK Chief Elections Commissioner cancelled the polling in this constituency.
In Lahore, twelve polling stations were set up for the polling of LA-37 Valley-II.
Polling was underway, when fierce fighting broke out between the PPP's and PML-N activists at Government Chishtia High School, Krishn Nagar, Home Economics College Gulberg and Qila Lachhman Singh polling stations. The workers of the two parties freely came to the blows and threw chairs at each other.
Leaders of PPP including opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz and PML-N stalwarts accused each other of pre-poll rigging the election and registered cases at police stations against workers of the opponent party.
The situation went out of control when even the returning officer Rana Ishtiaque was not allowed to enter the polling station at Government Chishtia High School Krishn Nagar. Later, Rana Ishtiaque said that Election Commissioner has cancelled LA-37 Valley-II election due to bad law and order situation.
