Former Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan on Sunday said that government has created 150 new posts of judges through Islamabad High Court Act (IHC) for two sessions' division of Islamabad to facilitate the litigants.
Talking to the delegations of Multan, Vehari, Bahwalnager and other Bar Associations, he said that out of these judicial posts 101 have been created for civil Judges and 30 for additional sessions judges adding that two sessions Judges has been appointed and remaining additional sessions judges, civil judges would be appointed soon through exams.
He said for the first time in history of the capital 50 percent posts of judicial officers of the district court will be filled by Islamabad based lawyers, 12 percent posts have been allocated for each of the four provinces and remaining 2 percent seats of judicial officers will be filled by the nominees of Federally Administrative Tribal Area (Fata).
Babar said the government has amended "Legal Practitioner and Bar Counsel Act" and now federal, provincial governments are bound to allocate annual budget for Pakistan Bar Council, Provincial Bar councils' and the Bar associations.
He also urged the lawyers to make their Bar Associations accountable as it is the money of public, asserting that all bar associations should start projects for the welfare of lawyers.
There are some elements in bureaucracy who don't want anything for the welfare of lawyers, he pointed out. Babar said, "Government is also presenting a "Legal Instrument bill" in Parliament, and according to the bill no legal instrument would be registered without the consultation of a lawyer. He said: "I purchased 40 kanals land for the chambers of Islamabad-based lawyers and establishing a first ever court complex for lawyers in the history of Pakistan.
He said: "I have no political relations with bar associations and my aim is to solve problems of lawyers' community irrespective of any political affiliation." He reiterated PPP-led government is committed to the policy of reconciliation, saying that a united effort was needed to overcome challenges confronting the country.
He said despite PPP-led government took over the charge in extremely difficult situation, but the democratic government gradually overcame financial troubles and was able to elevate foreign currency reserves through its prudent financial policies, he added.
