Academic Council of University of Karachi unanimously resolved that university would continue on-going BS- 4 year programme besides it would also offer admissions in B Sc, BA, B Com (Honours) - 3 years (6 semesters), BS on completion of 8 semesters and MA, MSc, M Com - 2 Years (4 semesters).
The students who are in different stages of BS programme or have completed eight semesters BS will be given an opportunity to opt either for B A/B Sc /(Hons) and MA/M Sc or to remain in BS program. All students will be graded according to the examination and assessment rules of Semester Rules 2002 Booklet (pgs 6 and 7) as per Registrar's notification dated March 13, 2009.
The academic council decided that BS 4 years Programme, which was introduced in 2007, has been running successfully in almost all departments of University of Karachi. Although in order to maintain higher standards, all courses were updated and some new courses were also introduced but unfortunately our BS product is not being accepted for its right place in the competitive job market.
Spokesman KU told Business Recorder academic council feel that before urging the universities to introduce BS 4 years Programme, HEC should have taken the initiative to sensitise the Federal and Provincial Public Service Commissions / R&D institutions and other employers about the equivalence status of BS program to Masters (M A/M Sc/M Com) so that the same may be reflected in the advertisement for jobs.
