Taiwan shares ended 0.27 percent higher on Wednesday, with biotech counters the top gainers after the government said it planned to invest around $840 million to foster the local industry. The main TAIEX index was up 23.42 points at 8,621.04, after opening up 0.77 percent. The biotech sub-index surged 2.69 percent. Financial shares rose 1.01 percent while electronic shares were up 0.58 percent.
