Canadian canola futures fall

Published Updated

ICE Canadian canola futures fell on Monday for a third day in thin volume, pressured by a late sell-off that pared gains in US soya markets, traders said. Total volume was 6,035 contracts, the smallest since May 30 and the third-smallest daily tally of 2011.
Traders were awaiting Statistics Canada's plantings report on Thursday, although trade is skeptical of its estimates because the agency's farmer survey likely missed June planting problems. July fell $1.80 at $579.30 per tonne on volume of 2,429 contracts, staying inside of Friday's trading range. New-crop November slipped $1 to $582.10 on volume of 3,459.
CBOT July soyabeans settled up 2-3/4 US cents at US $13.35-3/4 per bushel, but backed off their session high of $13.46. CBOT July soyaoil ended up 0.10 US cent at 56.02 US cents per lb. Little impact from Canadian dollar, which was trading at $0.9793 to the US dollar, or US $1.0211, at 2:11 pm CDT (1911 GMT), down slightly from $0.9802 to the US dollar, or US $1.0202, at Friday's close. NYMEX crude oil futures firmed 0.27 percent at US $93.26 per barrel. Exporters cancel, sell US soyabeans to China.
