Lahore High Court Chief Justice here Monday dismissed a petition seeking registration of a criminal case against Punjab law minister, Rana Sanaullah for giving an alleged statement that Babar Awan is liable to be killed. Earlier, when the court asked the petitioner Advocate Ansar Mehmood to establish himself as an aggrieved party in the case, he said he had filed the petition being a lawyer and a citizen of Pakistan.
He said Rana Sanaullah is an advocate and his alleged act has tarnished the image of whole legal fraternity. He also pleaded that since the law minister would continue to hurl threats on Babar Awan therefore, he should be prosecuted under criminal law.
The petitioner also stated that the law minister, by his statement, had made a bid to instigate public on murder and anarchy, which is a heinous offence under Pakistan Penal Code. The chief justice, Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry, remarked that the petitioner had no locus standi to file the instant petition, which is based merely on apprehensions. "If Babar Awan has some grievance against the law minister, he should approach the court directly," the CJ observed and dismissed the petition.
