Power shortfall hits 4,600 megawatts mark

Power situation is out of the control of Pepco despite a considerable improvement in weather, as the shortfall hits 4,600MW during the last 24 hours and likely to stir up with a rise in mercury ahead. Short supply of fuel and ongoing IPPs controversy has triggered the crisis further during the last few days and threat of any untoward situation, due to this, is lurking around.
Power generation during the last 24 hours stood at 13,456MW against a demand of 18,065MW, leaving the system with a total shortfall of 4,600MW. This has resulted into long hours of load-shedding both in urban and rural areas, ranging between 12 to 18 hours respectively. Power generation through hydel, thermal, IPPs and RPPs remained 5,185MW, 1,878MW, 6,319MW and 83MW respectively. Meanwhile, supply to the KESC stayed at 710MW.
