Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Sunday said Pakistan wants to have good relations with its neighbours adding that all issues can be resolved through dialogue. Addressing a public meeting here today after inaugurating development projects, the Prime Minister said, war is not the solution to the disputes.
The Prime Minister said he met many times with Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and convinced him that all bilateral issues, including Kashmir could be resolved through dialogue and not through war.
The Prime Minister said, "Pakistan wants a permanent and lasting solution to the Kashmir issue through dialogue and negotiations." He said Pakistan would convince the international community that the Kashmir issue should be resolved according to the aspirations of Kashmiris. The Prime Minister expressed the hope that the world community would help the Kashmiris to get their rights.
He said that the forthcoming elections for Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly would be free and fair to make them credible for the world community.
The Prime Minister said: "I assure you that the elections in AJK will be fair, free and impartial so the world should know that Pakistan is a responsible nuclear power and everything is done here on merit and in a transparent way."
He said that the Punjab government, the AJK government and the federal government agencies had been directed to ensure transparency in the elections so that Pakistan could further improve its image at the international level.
The Prime Minister said that the whole political leadership was participating in the AJK elections, which was a good sign for strengthening of the democratic process.
Prime Minister Gilani said it was his second visit to Shakargarh. He said he had fulfilled his pledges made during his last visit by inaugurating the development projects today.
The Prime Minister said that economic stability was not possible without political stability. He said when the PPP government was formed, there was recession in the world that caused economic crisis in the country.
