Pakistan Agriculture and Storage Company (Passco) Management has completed its target of procuring 1.3 million tons of wheat and has ensured judicious issuance of 'bardana' through proper monitoring and vigilance. There have been complaints about no or less issuance of bardana by the growers but the same is due to the fact that Passco procures only 30 percent of the produce of the areas of jurisdiction. It obviously leaves large number of growers who cannot be accommodated.
This was sated by an official of Passco, Syed Akthar Hussain Shah, here on Saturday. He said that due to the pressure from growers, government had enhanced target of Passco from 1.3 million tons to 1.5 million tons. The enhanced quantity has been distributed to various zones for procurement, he added. To mark the whole process absolutely transparent and ensure benefit to the growers, monitoring teams comprising senior and middle management from the head office, have been constituted who will supervise the issue of bardana and collection of wheat.
