Street crimes showed an upward trend despite Islamabad Police claims of significant success in bringing the crime ratio down, as over 115 incidents of street crimes took place during the last week.
According to data obtained from all circles of Islamabad Police here on Saturday, 115 cases of street crimes were reported in the capital that include theft, robberies, purse snatching and looting at gun-point, while drug pushing, car lifting, bootlegging, illegal arms and prostitution also shown an upward trend.
In reported 115 incidents of street crimes people were deprived of their valuables including cash, gold ornaments, mobile phones, computers, laptops and other valuables, while cars and motorcycles were also stolen from the capital during the week. Islamabad Police have claimed to bust 18 gangs of criminals involved in arms and drug smuggling, bootlegging, robberies, car snatching, theft and prostitution.
The data obtained from Capital Police revealed that 102 outlaws including 15 women were arrested by Islamabad Police for their alleged involvement in street crimes, bootlegging, drug pushing, dacoities, car snatching, robberies and other crimes.
Police held 21 persons for possessing illegal weapons and recovered one kalashnikov rifle, three repeater guns, one 12-bore gun, 15 pistols (30-bore and 32-bore), three dagger and 750 rounds from them. Islamabad Police have nabbed 21 persons for bootlegging and drug trafficking and recovered 3-kg heroin, 7.5-kg charas and 350 bottles of liquor from them. During the week 13 vehicles including Mehran, Suzuki Margalla, Suzuki pick up, Toyota Corolla, Suzuki Van, while five motorcycles were lifted by car thieves.
