In pursuance of the decision of the ECC of the Cabinet, TCP issued a Gallop Tender Notice on June 10, 2011 for import of 50,000 tons urea from international sources to meet urgent need of farmers for Kharif crops as Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) would be providing similar quantity of urea by second half of July 2011.
Through tender opened on Friday, 50,000 tons supply contract has been awarded to the lowest bidder Multi Commerce LLC at $544.73 per ton C&F. Six bidders participated in the tender and quoted prices ranging from $544.73 to $575.00 per ton C&F. The bid of Multi Commerce LLC, being the lowest and conforming to the technical specification and evaluation criteria given in the tender documents, was accepted and the tender was awarded to it.
In order to maintain complete transparency in the award of the tender, representatives from Transparency International Private Limited, Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FPCCI) and two leading urea manufacturers were invited to witness the process as observers. Adil Gilani, Chairman of Transparency International Pakistan, personally attended the tender award meeting.
As per tender terms and conditions, urea shipment would start within one week after opening of L/C, and TCP expects arrivals towards end June, 2011 or during first week of July, 2011. In addition to this tender, 50,000 tons urea has also been assured by SABIC for shipments to be made by second half of July.
In this way, around 100,000 tons urea will be made available in the domestic market through TCP, from external sources, to facilitate the farmers to meet their urgent need of urea for Kharif crops. As per past practice, the distribution and transportation of urea will be handled by National Fertiliser Marketing Limited (NFML).-PR
