Power shortfall touches 5,000 megawatts mark

Power shortfall touched alarming level of 5000MW amidst suspension of operations from the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) due to delay in payment and short supply of oil by the government. Resultantly, the power crisis has shot up amidst partial closure of IPPs including Turkey, Gulf, Hubco, and complete closure of others including Faisalabad, Ruche, Reshman, Shahdrah, Lal Peer, Orient, Japan, Sipcol power plants.
Power generation during last 24 hours stood at 13240MW against a demand of 18065MW, leaving the system with a total shortfall of 4815MW. Power generation through hydel, thermal, IPPs and RPPs remained 5030MW, 1813MW, 6297MW and 100MW, respectively. Power supply to the KESC was 700MW during last 24 hours. Power supply to the urban and rural areas was suspended for long hours, including 10 to 12 hours in urban and 14 to 16 hours in rural areas, respectively.
