An unruly mob of students of Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Multan attacked Multan Press Club, damaging four cars and many motorcycles of journalists parked in building premises by hurling bricks, stones and batons. Four journalists sustained injuries. Police could not reach site till the students went back.
Earlier a scuffle took place between the protesting students and news photographers when they refused to give way to journalists and continued the blockade of Abdali road. Photographers reportedly beat two students and took them to Multan Press Club.
Unruly students started brick batting and hurling stones to get release their classmates. They not only got released their colleagues but also damaged the vehicles as well as press club building and ran away in university bus before the arrival of police.
Students alleged that photographers had manhandled their classmates and gave them severe beating.
They further alleged that it was not a first incident, earlier press photographers manhandled the activists of Anjuman Mazareen and Sunni Ulema Council but no action was taken against them.
Later journalists blocked the Abdali road by parking their vehicles and vowed to continue their protest till the arrest of attackers. Commissioner Multan Syed Muhammad Gardezi has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
