Taiwan stocks recover

Published Updated

Taiwan stocks recovered losses from the previous session and ended up 1.33 percent on Tuesday, lifted by HTC Corp as investors bought on weakness. HTC surged 5.99 percent after its shares traded limit-down in the last two consecutive days. The smartphone company jumped by the maximum daily limit in earlier trading.
The main TAIEX index ended up 116.26 points at 8,829.21, after opening up 0.28 percent. All the sub-indices traded in positive territory, with oil and gas counters the top gainers, up 3.04 percent. Electronics shares were up 1.54 percent, while banking shares were up 0.78 percent. Electronic component maker Yageo Corp tumbled 6.35 percent. Taiwan's financial regulator has expressed concern over private equity fund Kohlberg Kravis Roberts's planned $1.6 billion buyout of Yageo, a source told Reuters on Tuesday.
