NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa completes 16 references in 2010-11

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa received 1782 complaints during financial year 2010-11 out of which 224 were subjected to verification, 82 inquiries and 16 investigations were allowed by the executive board and 16 references were completed with total value of Rs 504.319 million. The information has been issued in the yearly appraisal of the bureau here on Tuesday.
The Director General National Accountability Bureau Brigadier Mohammad Musaddiq Abbasi (Retd) has said all provincial chapters of the Bureau are efficiently working under their Regional Director Generals as per the powers vested through delegation of powers. During the fiscal year 2010-2011, NAB (KPK) was provided with a total budget of Rs 77.47 million which was utilised to achieve operational goals and fulfilling the administrative requirements including pays of employees.
In 14 different cases, an amount of Rs 112.496 million was recovered through Voluntary Return and Plea Bargain under Section 25 of NAO and share of government of KPK was returned along with 27 civilians those who lost their hard earned money to fraudulent people and cheaters.
The most heinous crimes of its nature were looting of 234 Hujjaj by the travel agents and their front men in KPK. The Bureau undertook exhaustive efforts under the Prevention Regime and managed to add to the revenue of government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the tune of Rs 262.98 million.
The awareness campaign covered the advertisement on monthly basis with support of government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in minimising chances of fraud with public through education. The Bureau has submitted three years plan to support the efforts of government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in eradicating corruption and corrupt practices from the province under the awareness and prevention regime.
Against the spent amount of Rs 70.5 million, the Bureau, he said during the financial year 2010-2011 total recoveries and references amount stands at Rs 880 million. This ratio can be enhanced manifold if operational strength through induction of fresh investigators is increased and Bureau has its Chairman who can sign references and approve voluntary return and plea bargain cases pending with NAB HQ as the reference above BPS-16 are required to be signed by him. The Regional Bureaus though have powers to inquire and investigate cases up to BPS-20.
