Renowned Pakistani Cardiologist Dr Raza Kazmi said on Tuesday that world blood donor day was a very significant with regard to its activity to donate blood to its brethren and save other person's life. Talking to PTV, Dr Raza said blood was an essential need of human body and its theme "more blood more life" required active contribution of peoples towards this activity.
He said blood provided oxygen to human body as absence of blood in any part of human body could turn it disabled and caused outbreak of dangerous diseases such as Hepatitis B, C, and more dangerous Thalassemia which was difficult to cure. He said blood donors required tests before donating blood and that should be cleared of diseases such as Hepatitis B, C.
He said drug addicts should avoid donating blood. Replying to a question, he said Pakistan had taken WHO's target for 2020 that the year 2011 the govt needed to establish proper screening of blood donation system to meet the day to day requirements and experts should pay visits to educational and other institutions for this purpose. Replying another question, he said the normal HB level was running nearly 10 to 11 whereas women should have HB 12 level and above 13 in men was required. He emphasised more and more iron and vitamins intakes for healthy body and for that purpose people should use green vegetables and milk as both were rich blood making sources.
