The Chairman of Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PHMA), North Zone, Salamat Ali, has said that the prevailing industrial crisis in Punjab not only affected the industrialists and textile exporters, but had also severely hit the labour class and daily wagers due to three days' gas load shedding in a week, load shedding of electricity, 150 percent price hike of raw material, high mark-up rates, delay in drawbacks and worst ever law and order situation.
Talking to newsmen, after distributing cheques of Rs 23.8 million among the industrial workers under Talented Scholarship Scheme for students for their education at Labour Department, he said that industrial peace was an example for other industrial areas, but now industrial crisis is yielding negative impact over the smooth functioning of the textile industry. Fresh investment in industrial sector of Punjab remained halted, he added.
Salamat expressed satisfaction over the working of Punjab Welfare Workers Board and stressed the need for more efforts for betterment of the educational units of labour zones. Earlier, presenting a brief, Muhammad Aslam Javed, District Labour Officer, said that Punjab government is providing maximum facilities to the students of the four Labour Class Schools in industrial city, where books and uniforms are being providing free of cost to all students. Free pick & drop is also available to the students, he added. During the function, Assistant Director Labour Muhammad Saeed and Mudassar Rizwan were also present.
