HYDERABAD: The Inspector General of Police Sindh A.D Khawaja has ruled out any political intervention in Sindh Police and maintained that provincial Police department was enjoying the non political status.
There is no government intervention in the Police and the Police has been engaged in combating crimes and criminals in the province, he said this while speaking as chief guest at the reception of SITE Association Hyderabad and later talking to media persons here on Tuesday.
He said combating terrorism is a challenge for all provinces of the country and the police possessed required ability to meet this task of rooting out terrorism from the province, however, the cooperation of the people was also essential to maintain the rule of law.
He informed that there was no departmental action being initiated against SSP Rao Anwar, however, if any police officer is involved in corrupt practices, it was his own guilt and he should be dealt with according to law.
The IGP however said that corruption in police can not be controlled by presenting report in the Supreme Court but there is the need of effective check and balance in the department so that the corruption free police could be ensured.
He dispelled the impression of any cold war between him and the Sindh Government adding that he is a government officer and discharging responsibilities in the provincial government of Sindh.
The IGP while referring the law and order situation in Hyderabad said that the citizens of the historic city are now residing in peaceful atmosphere and the police fully committed to protect the life and property of law abiding people.
He informed that training of the police is being carried out on modern lines and soon 200 more policemen would join duty after completion of their trainings.
He said that besides ensuring smooth flow of traffic, the Police Madadgar Centres would also be activated in Hyderabad at the pattern of Karachi in order to restore the confidence of the people on police.
