LAHORE: Provincial Minister For Law and Parliamntary Affairs Rana Sanaullah on Tuesday said the Punjab government, following order of the Lahore High Court, made public the report of the Model Town incident public.
"The government had promised to make the report public and it duly fulfilled its promise," he added.
Addressing a news conference at 90-Shahra-e-Quaid-e-Azam here, the Law Minister affirmed that the government had decided not to challenge the report in the court any further.
He, however, termed the report inconclusive and full of legal flaws. "The report is defective in the eye of law because it is based on secondary evidence, which is not admissible as per the Evidence Act," he added.
He said, the inquiry report held no government official responsible for the Model Town incident, adding, not a single word in the report held Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif responsible for the incident.
He said, the report mentioned that PAT workers offered resistance to police, which led to police action. He said, Tahirul Qadri blamed the Punjab government for the incident but infact, he incited PAT workers to create chaos. "Qadri Saheb wanted to create fuss for political motives," he said.
Answering a question, the minister said, the report was not made public because a court trial was in progress and the government wanted to protect the rights of all parties involved in the case.
He said, the Punjab government believed in the supremacy of law and merit.
