LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Monday ordered for installation of CCTV cameras in government schools and buses for speech and hearing-impaired children.

The chief justice passed the orders while hearing a petition filed by Syed Miqdad Mehdi against a torture incident on special children in a school bus of Government Special Education Centre, Sambrial, district Sialkot.

As the proceedings began, director special education department submitted a reply, wherein details of speech and hearing-impaired schools, students, staff and buses were provided.

However, the court expressed annoyance on lack of training to the staff of the said schools and observed that torture on children could not be tolerated at any cost.

DPO Sialkot Asad Shafique informed the court that action was being taken against the conductor, Mazhar, after registration of a case.

An implementation report was also presented before the court on behalf of inspector general of police Punjab, wherein it was stated that two unarmed policemen were deputed on all buses of the said schools in compliance with court directions on last hearing.

The court after hearing arguments directed Special Education department to install cameras in all schools and buses for speech and hearing impaired children.

The court also summoned Secretary Special Education for December 14 while issuing directions for training of staff concerned and policemen deputed at security of special children.
