Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan, Sharifuddin Pirzada, and other lawyers in their replies to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) have said that they had not taken any money from Haris Steel Mills to bribe the judges for taking decision in favour of the company.
Sources said that all lawyers in their replies submitted before the National Accountability Bureau (NBA) claimed that they did not take any money from the Haris Steel Mills to bribe the judges. "The money we have taken from our client was only a fee for representing him before the court of law," they said.
The four prominent lawyers, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan, Sharifuddin Pirzada, former Attorney General Malik Abdul Qayyum and Ali Waseem son of Wasim Sajjad have been facing allegations of receiving huge moneys from their client on assurance that they would manage a decision in his favour.
While talking to Business Recorder, Advocate of Supreme Court of Pakistan and former President High Court Bar Association Rawalpindi Asmat Ullah Khan said that according to National Accountability Ordinance 1999, the NAB could not probe lawyers of Supreme Court or High Courts.
He said that Pakistan Bar Council is the relevant body to take action against the lawyers if they have been found involved in any kind of misconduct. The bar council could suspend their membership and licence and even could impose a ban on them for as much period as it deemed necessary, he added.
