The 19th Pakistan-Sri Lanka clash in international soccer arena will be staged in the 8th SAFF Championship at Dhaka's Bangabandhu National Stadium on December 4. According to Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) spokesman, Pakistan is in Group B with Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bhutan.
It will be Pakistan's first match in the Group B. The Group A is comprised of Maldives, India, Nepal and Afghanistan. All the 15 matches of the biennial event will be held at Bangabandhu between 4-14 December 2009. The 18th meet between two nations was staged earlier this year on 8th April during 3rd AFC Challenge Cup Qualifiers (Group D) at Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo.
The sixth SAFF championship 2005 saw Pakistan managed 1-0 win over Sri Lankans at Karachi while the two U-23 matches between the two on Sri Lankan soil in 10th South Asian Games 2006 ended in Pakistan's triumph.
He further said that Sri Lankans were currently 154th in FIFA World ranking and Pakistan is 161. Both the nations won seven times in the 18 matches held so far in track record with four matches ended in draw. The goal count in favour of Pakistan is 26-30. The first full international match between two South Asian nations took place in 1952 when Sri Lanka was known as Ceylon.
