The Swedish Embassy says it hopes to soon meet three Swedes arrested in Pakistan on suspicion of terrorism. Swedish Ambassador to Pakistan Ulrika Sundberg said on Wednesday that authorities had assured her they would provide access to the suspects. Two men and one woman were arrested late last month close to Pakistan's militant-infested tribal areas. A young boy was also travelling with the group.
Police say one of them, Mehdi-Muhammed Ghezali, was once held by the US at the Guantanamo Bay military detention center. A police report obtained by The Associated Press says the three detainees entered Pakistan from Iran and had planned to travel to the North Waziristan tribal area to join al Qaida operatives hiding there.
