Ministry of Textile and Higher Education Commission (HEC), will provide Rs 450 million to National Textile University (NTU), Faisalabad, for accomplishment of its infrastructure, while the Government of Pakistan would also allocate funds of Rs 1,350 million for the execution of development projects in the NTU.
This was disclosed by Federal Minister for Textile Industry, Rana Farooq Saeed, while addressing a meeting of the academic staff of the University here Tuesday. The minister said that the HEC would also provide funds of Rs 50 million to NTU in the next fiscal year budget.
He also said that a fully-equipped 'Garment Laboratory' will also be set up in the University, adding that a Letter of Credit has already been established for the import of the latest apparatus and machinery for the laboratory which will be inaugurated in the first week of July, 2009.
A computer centre would also be constructed in the University for which 200 computers along with other accessories, would also be provided, he added. Moreover, he apprised that a digital library and the facility for 'World Video Conferences' will also be provided to students of NTU, adding that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) would also be signed with top global universities to enable NTU students to get on-line information from the world top-level universities about the admission.
Rana Farooq Saeed mentioned that short courses and diploma courses would also be designed for the NTU, moreover, he said that government land would also be provided to the NTU for its expansion of new Campus. The minister disclosed that two new textile colleges, one at Chunian (Lahore) and the other at Karachi will also be constructed by the government and these textile colleges will be affiliated with the NTU.
Federal Secretary, Textile Ministry, Dr Waqar Masud, Protocol Officer of Ministry, Chaudhry Ghulam Hussain, Rector NTU Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, Member Board of Governors, Mian Muhammad Latif, Chairman, Faisalabad Garment City, Sheikh Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman, Faisalabad Dry Port Trust, Sh. Ashfaq Ahmed, University Registrar Professor Jawaid Iqbal and Dr Tanvir Ahmed, Dr Mumtaz Hassan Malik, Chaudhry Muhammad Latif (Admin Head) Dr Tahir Hussain, Controller of Examinations NTU also attended the meeting.
