Syed Saleem Gilani, former Director General Radio Pakistan and father of Public Relations Officer (PRO) to Prime Minister Danyal Gilani, passed away after protracted illness in Lahore on Thursday. He was 80 years old. Syed Saleem Gilani, an eminent broadcaster, served Radio Pakistan in different capacities for 40 years and became the Director General in 1984.
During his tenure, he introduced innovative ways of broadcasting including the hourly news bulletins to keep listeners informed about the latest developments at home and around the globe. Saleem Gilani was widely respected for his professional skills in various departments of radio, particularly music. He introduced several new voices in the fields of music, announcement and comparing, raising the standard of radio.
Late Gilani was also a poet and author of several books. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Syed Saleem Gilani, father of his PRO Danyal Gilani and former Director General of Radio Pakistan.
The Prime Minister in his condolence message has offered his sincere condolences to the bereaved family. He prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss with fortitude.
