The government on Monday notified the promotion of Rear Admiral Asaf Humayun to the rank of Vice Admiral with immediate effect. Vice Admiral Asaf Humayun joined Pakistan Navy in December 1970. After initial training at Pakistan Naval Academy, and British Royal Naval College Dartmouth UK, he was commissioned in June 1973.
Admiral is a submariner by specialisation. He has held various operational appointments, including Command of PN Submarines Hangor, Shushuk and Command of PN Ships Tippu Sultan and Shahjahan. Besides that the Admiral has also served as Commander of the Submarine Squadron. On staff appointments he served as Director Submarines Operations and Naval Secretary in Naval Headquarters.
He is a graduate of National Defence College Islamabad and has done Naval Staff Course from USA. Admiral has also served as Naval Attache in New Delhi (India).
As Director General of Maritime Technologies Complex he employed his operational knowledge for technology development. He was assigned the Command of PN Fleet in January 2006 and is Commander Pakistan Fleet till to date. During his career the Admiral has been awarded Hilal-e-lmtiaz (Military), Sitara-e-lmtiaz (Military) and Tamgha-e-lmtiaz (Military). The Admiral is married with two children.
