According to latest reports, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated the project.

The Prime Minister also took a ride in the metro following the inauguration.

The 18.5 kilometers long track has been completed at a cost of over Rs 28 billion. Initially thirty-five buses will be run and approximately 95 thousand people will travel by these buses daily. Each bus can carry 190 passengers.

Escalators, lifts, generators, expansion joints and launching pads of the project have been imported from Europe. The provincial government will also run shuttles on a feeder route to let commuters reach metro track from different parts of the city.

The project was completed at a cost of Rs 28.88 billion.

Over 1500 guests, included foreign ambassadors, national and provincial ministers, members of the parliament were present in the inauguration ceremony at Bahauddin Zakariya University.

Over 45,000 police officers were deployed in the city for security during inauguration of the project.

Multan is the third city of Punjab that has metro bus to facilitate the commuters. Earlier, two bus projects were launched in Lahore and twin cities of Rawalpindi-Islamabad. However, citizens now feel that the addition of the metro bus service has beautified their city.

Along with Punjab CM, ambassadors of 30 different countries also attended the event.
