KARACHI: Today last day of 9TH International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2016 exhibition is a combined effort of Pakistan armed forces and Government of Pakistan for self-dependence by growing the local defence production industry instead of looking towards others for the country's defence requirements.
IDEAS 2016 is being arranged by Defense Export and Promotion Organization under the theme of "Arms for Peace."
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the 9TH IDEAS 2016 being held at Expo Centre in Karachi. Fifty five countries, including China, Turkey, Ukraine and the United States, are participating in the event.
The PM was welcomed at the venue by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah and IG Sindh also accompanied the Prime Minister.
Besides diplomates from various countries, a large number of foreign exhibitors/delegates, representatives of local companies engaged in defence production and officials of three armed forces were also present.

IDEAS 2016, being the most strategically important event of the region, once again bring together twenty-one foreign and one hundred fifty seven national firms to showcase their products in the exhibition. The four days of the show are exclusively for trade visitors and high official defence delegates.






The exhibition provided an opportunity to Pakistan for showcasing its defence products as evident from the fact that Pakistan had received a large number of orders for exports of Pakistani products. Turkey had placed an order to buy 52 super-mushak aircraft from Pakistan, which would be manufactured by Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, Kamrah.
It had also provided a good avenue for sending positive signals and soft image and warm hospitality of Pakistani people to foreign countries. This clearly showed the resilience of Pakistan's economy that despite several challenges including ongoing war on terror and regional issues etc.
