ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif will leave on Friday (today) for two-day state visit to Turkmenistan on the invitation of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
According to latest reports, He will lead Pakistan delegation to the first ever Global Conference on Sustainable Transport being held at Ashgabat under the auspices of the United Nations.
The conference is co-hosted by Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and Turkmenistan and is likely to be attended by around 1500 participants, including Heads of State, Government, Ministers, private sector CEOs, civil society leaders and UN officials.
According to The Nation, in a pre-departure statement, PM Nawaz said that Pakistan attaches great significance to strengthening its relations with Central Asian nations.
He added that the government's vision is to increase trade, energy, road and rail links with Central Asian states.
Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan, Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, are accompanying PM Nawaz on his visit.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will also hold bilateral meeting with the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and exchange views on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.
