MULTAN: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) executive board Wednesday authorized an inquiry against officials of the Revenue Department Layyah over misuse of authority.
According to a press release issued here, a complaint was lodged at the NAB Multan, alleging that Revenue officials of Layyah had misused their authority by illegally adjusting state owned green belts and highway department lands, resulting in loss of crores of rupees to the national exchequer.
During the complaint verification, it surfaced that in year 1991-92, 184K-15M shelter belt land and 200 marla green belt land was illegally adjusted in Layyah. Two-canal highway department land was also illegally adjusted. These State owned lands are currently worth Rs 60 Crore at present market value. One of the beneficiaries of illegal adjustment, is former parliamentarian Malik Ghulam Haider Thind.
The DG NAB has said Revenue officials would not be allowed to embezzle state lands nor derive any illegal benefit. He added that NAB Multan was consistently continuing `Zero Tolerance against Corruption Policy of Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman NAB'.
