Sharjeel, Rizwan in line for Misbahs replacement

Published November 23, 2016 Updated November 23, 2016 08:48am

imageAfter the departure of Pakistan Test captain Misbah ul Haq from the New Zealand tour, the Pakistani cricket team is looking for their skippers replacement, as the second Test match is set to begin in Hamilton on Friday.

Pakistan at the moment are juggling between middle-order batsman Mohammad Rizwan and left-handed opener Sharjeel Khan, informed Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur.

"We've got two options. Mohammad Rizwan can slot into the middle order - he's traveled around with us for a long time," said Mickey Arthur during an interview to ESPNcricinfo.

"He's trained with us. He went through the England series. We sent him back to play some domestic cricket and he responded by getting 167 and a 95. That's one option. Or we can have a look at Sharjeel Khan. If we use Sharjeel at the top of the order, that makes quite a few changes," added Arthur.

Skipper Misbahul Haq left for Pakistan after the first Test in Christchurch, due to sudden demise of his father-in-law

Arthur admitted that playing without skipper Misbah would be tough for the visitors, but Arthur was optimistic that the young players would be eager to avail this opportunity.

"When you lose your leader it becomes really tough. But you have to put a positive spin on it. It's a real opportunity for one of the other young players to step up."
