The Punjab government has decided to impose ban on the sale of government land and not to give land on lease for more than one year to enhance national exchequer. A summary in this regard is being sent to the Punjab Chief Minister for approval, said a handout issued here on Sunday.
This was decided in a meeting held under the chairmanship of provincial Revenue Minister, Gul Hameed Khan Rokhari and Minister for Colonies Mian Manzar Ali Ranjha, here. Senior Member Board of Revenue, Safdar Javed Syed, Member Colonies, Tariq Yousuf, Secretary Colonies and other senior officers attended the meeting.
The meeting was informed that the ban has already been imposed on extension of agreements of those lands whose leased period has expired. The meeting was also told that the government has 11,896,431 acres of land out of which 280,648 acres worth about Rs 56 billion have been grabbed illegally. In order to vacate this land a law is being framed which will become part of Colonies Act 1912 after approval.
It was decided in the meeting that ban should immediately be imposed on sale of government land and in future the land would be given on only one year lease in open auction to those who will give maximum offer and submit total amount in lump sum. A case in this regard is being prepared which would be sent to the Punjab chief minister for approval.
It was also decided in the meeting that under the Chief Minister Programme, 188,992 5-marla plots would be distributed among poor people and in the first phase 36,222 plots would be distributed in Jhang, Sargodha, Rahimyar Khan, Chakwal and Mianwali.
The revenue minister has directed to finalise the arrangements by March 30.
Manzar Ranjha informed the meeting that the formalities have been completed for allotment of 12.5 acre of land to each land-less farmer under the Chief Minister's Programme.
