Educated people urged to emulate Dr Panhwar

Prominent educationists, intellectuals and scholars called upon educated people of rural areas to help in development of modern social infrastructure in their native villages to ensure basic facilities to the people. They were speaking on the occasion of 6th death anniversary of renowned educationist and social worker late Dr Khan Muhammad Panhwar organised by Dr Khan Muhammad Trust in collaboration with department of Mass Communication and Hyderabad Press Club on late Friday.
The speakers, paying rich tribute to Dr Khan Muhammad Panhwar for his services in the field of social work, Sindhi Journalism and rural development, said that today a number of NGOs and social organisations were amassing huge funds in the name of rural development. but they failed to bring any change in rural society.
The speakers were of unanimous opinion that late Dr Panhwar was a man of vision realising the needs of future development of the remote areas. He started social work in remote rural areas when nobody was willing to visit the rural areas. He founded Sindh Goth Sudhar Sanghat and launched a campaign to create awareness amongst the rural population to understand and resolve their problems on self help basis.
The speakers said Dr Panhwar's services were focused on the remote areas as he was of firm belief that by developing villages, a responsible society could be developed.
The Vice Chancellor, University of Sindh, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui who presided over the occasion lauded services of Dr Panhwar in setting up the department of Journalism/Mass Communication in the University, and his services for the development of remote rural areas. He said his role in promotion of girls education in rural areas needed no mention.
He said that for rural development, as well as to provide training to rural development workers, the University has established the Centre for Rural Development Communication, but it has yet to fulfill the requirements of its objectives. He said that it is the responsibility of the educated people to work for their villages, to look after school education, specially the girls education.
Noted Archaeologist Syed Hakim Ali Shah Bukhari, who was the chief guest speaking on this occasion, highlighted the services of late Panhwar and said that he always worked for the welfare of downtrodden people of remote areas of the province.
He said that the Village Development is key to society development, and urged for joint efforts by all the people.
He said that negligibles development in the villages and lack of basic facilities in rural area lead to influx of rural population in the urban areas, creating hoards of civic problems, which are increasing with the passage of time.
Noted Poet Imdad Hussaini said that Dr Panhwar was the best teacher of the University along with his other abilities. He acted as a worker, without claiming any award or remuneration from the society, and added, "due to his services, the rural people specially loved him".
Renowned Scientist Dr M.Y Khuhawar said that Dr Panhwar, during his university service, always motivated the teachers and students to work for providing the basic needs to their villages.
He said that Dr Panhwar was a person of unique abilities, who, in his lifetime, spent every minute with his purpose of life for the development of the society, education and promotion of education in rural areas.
Dr Hussain Bux Kolachi said that, due to the efforts of Dr Panhwar, their village Tando Kolachi had developed with all the basic facilities, including community centre. He added that when Dr Panhwar first visited Tando Kolachi, there were only one or 2 educated persons, but today there are more than 1000 educated people in the village.
