Federal Minister for Water and Power, Liaquat Ali Khan Jatoi has said that effective policies of the present government have attracted foreign investors to invest in various development projects of the country particularly in energy sector. He was talking to newsmen after attending a briefing and inaugurating the web site of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) here on Saturday afternoon.
The minister informed that the government conducted successful road shows in London and Dubai to attract the foreign investors to make their investment in energy sector of the country.
As a result of the road show in Dubai, the minister told that an American company AES has showed interest to invest one billion dollar in energy sector of Pakistan. Discussions with the said company are in progress, he added.
The minister said that efforts are also underway to explore alternative sources of energy to overcome its demand in the country. A foreign company also presented another offer of 3.5 billion dollars to the government, he said and added that effective economic policies of President General Pervez Musharraf and the Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz have not only moved the country on the path of rapid progress and prosperity, but the country also clinched a respectable position in the comity of nations.
The world leaders are visiting Pakistan and extending co-operation in completion of development projects in the country, he said adding the government is also looking for new vistas in water and power sectors in order to overcome the future demand of the country Liaquat Jatoi said the government has also decided to produce wind energy and in this direction a unit would be established by December 2005.
The water and power minister informed that the ministry has decided to make all power distribution companies independent and strong. In this regard, he said a meeting would be presided over by the Prime Minister on April 14. The minister expressed satisfaction over the performance of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company and assured that all those officers of Hesco who showed outstanding performance will be rewarded soon.
