BERLIN: German industry output dropped in August, led by a fall in consumer goods production, data from the economy ministry showed on Friday, in another sign of easing growth in Europe's largest economy.
Official figures showed output fell by 1.0 percent on the month in seasonally adjusted terms, after a 3.9 percent expansion in July. That put a less volatile measure tracking both months' progress at a positive 2.8 percent.
Economists polled by Reuters had expected a larger decline of 1.9 percent.
Consumer goods fell by 4.9 percent on the month, led by a drop in durable goods that the ministry attributed to summer holidays. German industry remained on an upward trend despite the August figures, the ministry said, adding however that weakening orders could stifle momentum in production further.
