The Sindh Chief Minister, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, has said that Thar was a far-flung backward area of the province, which was overlooked in the past.
"But this government will take comprehensive measures to solve Thar's problems and provide basic facilities to its residents", he said.
Arbab Rahim was meeting hundreds of people from different towns and villages of Tharparkar District who gathered at Chief Minister House on Friday to felicitate him on becoming Chief Minister.
Dr Arbab said that problems of Thar would be solved on priority basis and construction of roads in various towns and villages, supply of gas, electricity and drinking water would be ensured.
He announced that doctors, educational experts and personnel belonging to different parts of Tharparkar, would be appointed on different posts in the district so that they could serve the people of their areas. "It is the right of people of Thar to serve their people after getting education on the basis of district's domicile," he added.
The Chief Minister said he would meet the people of Thar every fortnightly, not only in Karachi but also during visits to the district and strive to solve their problems.
He declared that he would soon approach Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali for supply of gas to Mithi. Sui gas would be brought from Badin to Deeplo and on to Mithi, he added.
On the demand of people, the Chief Minister directed Secretary of health to appoint specialist doctors in Civil Hospital Mithi.
Arbab Ghulam Rahim said he had been told that snakebite medicines would reach Thar hospitals in a couple of days.
On public complaints, the Chief Minister suspended Engineer Prem Chand of Taluka Council and also removed Altaf Mangi of education department at Mithi.
The people gathered said that Dr Arbab was first person in the history of Tharparkar to become the Chief Minister of the Sindh, which was a great honour for people of the district.
