To expand the mobile connectivity/coverage to 100 countries, Paktel, a leading cellular company, has started installation of Global System Mobile (GSM) equipment in all the major cities for facilitating over two million more subscribers.
According to a press release issued here on Tuesday, the GSM network will not only provide widespread coverage and connections all across Pakistan, but it will also offer Paktel's customers with international roaming facility in more than 100 countries including latest value-added services such as SMS, ring tones, international SMS and picture messages, etc.
The company has started installation of GSM apparatus in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
The three switches installed in major cities will provide state-of-the-art technological support to the GSM network, the first test call for which will be made in March.
Paktel's GSM network will have a total capacity of at least two million subscribers covering 150 cities.
Paktel's GSM network encompasses a total investment of 150 million dollars. Signing ceremony for the first tranche of 20 million dollars took place last year.
The company has recently been given membership of the world-wide community of GSM companies namely the GSM Association.
Paktel has announced the dialing code for its GSM network, which would be 0304. Approved by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the dialing code is the next defining step in Paktel's GSM countdown.
The GSM network will extend to at least 150 cities and towns across the country. With a subscriber capacity of at least two million, it will be instrumental in providing the best mobile connectivity, coverage and service.
