SC seeks fresh report over relief activities for flood victims

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Additional Attorney General of Sindh to submit a fresh report within ten days about the relief activities provided to the victims of rain falls in Sindh.

The three-member bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Tariq Parvez and Justice Ghulam Rabbani also ordered the counsel for the provincial government to expedite relief activities as over seven million people were badly affected by the recent flood.

The bench was hearing a contempt plea moved by Marvi Memon, former member of Parliament, against the Sindh government for non-implementation of the recommendations of Flood Commission.

Mira Muhammad Shah submitted comprehensive report over the action taken against officials held responsible in the Flood Commission report and the ongoing relief activities for the flood victims.

He said that steps are being taken for providing food and health facilities to the victims and added that government is also distributing an amount of Rs.20,000 to victims through Pakistan cards.

The water level of flood has also reduced over one feet and government is making ways to put flood water in the sea.

The Chief Justice remarked that media reports indicate that problems of affected people were increasing day by day.

The CJ also observed that Pakistan faced loss in billions of rupees due to the destruction of cotton crops and they could not cultivate next season crops.

The further hearing of the case was adjourned till date in office.
